Word for Wednesday: Try New Things

Wheat Grass

I’ll explain what this is in my post – so read the whole thing!

On Monday I had talked about how important it is to plan and think ahead if you want to be successful in your health and fitness.  Today I wanted to talk about something that seems counterproductive to that, but can actually keep you on track and even been planned itself.

What am I talking about?  TRYING SOMETHING NEW

When we start a new fitness or health regimen it is easy for us to get drawn in and stuck doing the same old things!  In fact even if we are not in great shape or haven’t started our fitness journey, it can be hard to make changes because we become so used to our routines!  Let me share a story with you:

A couple years ago when I was trying to lose the last of my weight I was in a rut.  I had hit a health plateau that often comes with being in the same exact routine for too long and I couldn’t figure out what to do.  That’s when I found Shakeology!  I saw the price and I came with a millions reasons I didn’t need it, the price, I could probably just eat right, there had to be a cheaper alternative.  I tried to come up with all the reasons to not do it, but then I figured something out, a small secret I want to share with you.

We are always afraid of what is new and unknown.  Our mind will convince us of a millions reasons to not try something new – and here’s the kicker – even if what we are doing right now is working we are still afraid to change it!  Fear and our minds can be tricky little things.  But I am happy to say that two years later I still use Shakeology on a daily basis and never for a day do I regret my investment in my own health!  I found that changing things up can sometimes be the best way to solve a problem, a plateau, or a rut!

This is my new teapot - I love tea but I've never tried it in a real authentic teapot, and I thought it was time to try it a new way!

This is my new teapot – I love tea but I’ve never tried it in a real authentic teapot, and I thought it was time to try it a new way!

In honor of this idea of trying new things, I decided to do a few new things myself this week. The picture at the top of the post is flash frozen wheat grass and it supposed to have a TON of health benefits – so I bought some yesterday and started taking it today!  I’ll try it for a week and if I like it I’ll add it to my routine!

Your routine needs to become dynamic, changing, it should evolve just as you do!  If you think that wheat grass is crazy, I promise you that 2-3 years ago I would have been 100% on your side.  But since I have allowed my routine to evolve and change with me – I have achieved new heights in my health and my fitness!  You can do the same by simply adding something new in today.  Try a new group exercise class, order a new supplement, try a new food – just starting changing things and keep looking forward.

If you can’t figure out how to change things up with your health and your fitness, try going somewhere!  I went to a new health store this week – I scored some vegan jerky that was delicious – and that gave me a ton of new ideas including the wheat grass.  If you’re fitness is slacking hit up a group exercise class, look out new routines online, try a fitness conference or workout DVD.  Are you seeing the theme here, just keep trying new things!

Another thing I decided to try was to dehydrate some water melon! It’s not done yet so I don’t have pics but I snuck a piece that wasn’t quit finished and it tasted AMAZING, like healthy watermelon candy – so expect an update on that soon!

I know that you have the power to change in ways you never even knew possible, so get out there this week and try new  things- oh and check back next Wednesday for an update on the wheat grass!

If you enjoyed this post, please share it with someone who might enjoy it on Facebook!

Until Next Time,

Zach

“Your routine needs to become dynamic, changing, it should evolve just as you do!” Couldn’t agree more dude. This reminds me of the quote, “if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got.”

That doesn’t mean every new thing is going to be a successful, but the only way to find out for sure is to commit to it and do it!

It’s so important to keep things fresh and stay out of that darn rut — that’s how people fail. I love going in health food shops and trying new things!

I couldn’t agree more! Our minds certainly do give us all the reasons to believe in our pathetic little excuses. I really love your teapot! I want to try the bloom teas since I always do loose leaf. Have you tried them?
