Winter Workout Blues

Cold Weather

I’m not sure if it’s as cold where you are as it is here, but with the “arctic blasts” that have been hitting this side of the country there is a good chance you’re just as cold as me!  If that’s the case, today’s post is just for you with some tips to help you  get in a good workout.

When it get’s cold outside, I’m a total freeze baby.  Me and Ted (my little dog) like to sit on the coach and pretty much get nothing done all day long, however that isn’t the most productive use of my time.  I also know that when the police department says that I can’t get on the road to drive, getting to the gym becomes impossible. So here are the things I do to stay active:

Pop In a Workout DVD:

For years I was one of those people that said that workout DVDs were not that great and I certainly wasn’t interested in using them.  But now, after finding some amazing workouts like INSANITY and TurboFire, most days I would prefer to workout at home instead of going to the gym!  In fact the only reason I hit the gym so regularly is that I happen to work at a Rec Center!

Runners, Hit the Track

If it’s not too cold to get in your car and drive to the gym, you can always run on an indoor track!  I know that there are a few people that like to run in the cold, but that’s not me!  I tried running in the cold a couple of times, and every time it basically feels like what I imagine dying to feel like.  So I personally prefer to hit the track if I want some good machine-free cardio in the winter time!

Get in an At Home Workout, Equipment Free

Trying combining a few cardio moves with some basic body weight moves and compile your very own at home workout!  Just because you don’t have weights, DVDs, or equipment doesn’t mean that you can’t get in a good burn!  If you are still getting into the swing of things and are looking for a simple at home work out, I’ve attached one here so that you can get fit , even with the frigid winds blowing .

Winter Workout

So this season, even with Winter Storm Hercules and Winter Storm Janus – you can stay happy and healthy.  Unless like me you are going crazy being stuck in the house day after day – but that post is for another day!

If you enjoyed this post, Pin the workout to your Pintrest board to share with your friends

Until Next Time,

Zach

P.S. Here’s a little bonus picture of the week, this is how Ted spends the cold weekends at our house!

Zach,
I love how incredibly upbeat you are. I love your spunky attitude too. I think exercise is important every day. We live in the mountains and get the fresh air on our daily walks. Next to swimming, I think a daily walk is the best exercise for a person. It clears the mind and gets all the organs re-oxygenated. When the walk is over, you have energy to spare.
My wife and I walked into town, through town and back in three hours time. It just makes you feel so darn good!

Have a tremendous week!

Hey Bill,

That’s so awesome, I imagine a walk in the mountains is so peaceful and rejuvenating! I’ll have to come visit some time ;)

Thanks for reading,

Hi Zach,

Thanks for inspiring me with this post. In the dead of winter, we can’t get outside and do much here in the North East USA. One can easily fall into the winter blues and just become a couch potato.

It’s so important to get ourselves up and running (pardon the pun). That’s why I have joined my local gym. But when it gets all icy and I can’t even get there, I can pop on a DVD and/or just do whatever I can to keep my body in motion.

Thanks again for the inspiration,
-Donna

Hey Donna,

Yup! It’s all about keeping the body in motion! Sometimes it’s a tough call especially when it’s so cold, but it’s keep you sane!

I’m in the North East too, so I’m bracing for the bitter cold again tonight, yuck!

Stay Warm,

Zach

Zach,

Like Bill said, I like the way you keep yourself upbeat. But, I also know it’s because you keep yourself fit, you exercise well and you are consistent about it.

Reading your posts, I always feel great and right now, i am getting ready to do some workout for today before the day ends. Thank you for the reminder and yes, Dallas is cold today. But I am planning to go to gym and do some running. Just to get some blood pumping!

Have a great evening and a terrific week!

Hey Kumar,

Glad to hear you getting that workout in, but I’m so jealous your in Dallas!

I’m not sure what the temps are there right now, but I would kill for anything over freezing right about now hahaha!

Thanks for reading,

Zach

We don’t have arctic blasts here Zach but I don’t like cold weather at all. Guess that’s why I stay here in Texas even though right now it’s below 30 degrees.

Now I’m not much of an exercise person, just have never enjoyed it although I certainly have given it a shot numerous times in my life but I do walk. Weather permitting that is but I also know that I really do need to do more. This week I started incorporating that 7 minute workout into my day and yes, it’s only my 2nd day but I’m just getting started. What better way to ease me into it right!

So no walking today I’m afraid so might have to do the 7 minute one twice today although that won’t hit my 30 minutes I spend walking.

Great share though and Ted is adorable by the way. Stay warm and have a great week.

Nice article, sucks your stuck in, can’t imagine that kind of weather. Good job taking away excuses people will have about weather being the reason they can’t exercise
